UPDATE: I've got it down, but now the two big pieces won't come apart. I am sooo frustrated right now.

The CD that came with my pole is a load of crap.. It won't even load anymore, and I've only used it once.

Which sort of X-pole do you have... is it top or bottom loading?

That doesn't sound good. If it's a screw together style you really really need to buy the better tools as the little ones that are supplied are rubbish and bend immediately.

That sucks! Is it the X-Pert or X-Sport? And does it have X-Joint connectors, or the older screw-together kind?

I have a x-jointed X-Pert and to take mine down, I would always just reverse the directions in the instruction manual/online video. (Start by unscrewing the slider cover from the base, unscrew the three little screws above the sliding cover and then start twisting your pole counter clockwise to contract it. Then when it's low enough, you can take the dome plate off the top and lay the pole on it's side to un-do the x-joint(s) and slide the pole tubes off the x-joint(s). If it's an X-Sport or Kendra pole, the assembly/dis-assembly is totally different: you remove the black foam thing at the bottom [if applicable] and unscrew the big silver hex bolt at the bottom and then insert that long silver rod into the hole and untwist that counter clockwise to contract the pole. Then, it's the same.. take off top plate, lay pole on side to loosen x-joints, etc.)

Also, where did you buy your pole from? There are some fake X-Poles out there being sold on Ebay and places like that. I only wonder because the fake poles usually include an assembly DVD whereas here in the US, they don't send out DVD's along with the poles. (They only send assembly DVD's with the X-Stages)

As for the two big pieces that won't come apart, is it the x-joint that you're having problems with? Have the x-joint holes mis-aligned themselves? If that's the case, this is the video that shows how to get the pole tubes apart:

If that video above is not the problem and you still need help when you read this, can you take a picture and upload it here so we can see what the problem is?

    Good luck!

Sooo I had the longest response, and it didn't go through... I am soo pissed about that!

summary: I have the X-Sport. I believe it's bottom loading, not sure I have the x-joints. I began by unscrewing that slider cover, but it only had two screws.
I bought it from someone through CraigsList -- He said he bought it from the XPole company.

I was confused by the video because i'm not sure my pole is like that..

If you have the X-Sport, then you shouldn't have a slider cover. The X-Sport has a big hexagonally shaped nut bolt thing on the bottom which you have to unscrew before you can stick the long black rod into the slot/hole at the base of the pole and begin untwisting to shorten your entire pole.

The X-Joint is the short metal thing that connects the pole tubes, the thing that you stick the big hex key into and twist it to tighten/loosen it. The older X-Poles are made as the screw together kind that Red mentioned earlier, which I have no experience with at all.

    This is the X-Joint:

Can you take a picture of your pole as it is right now? That might be easier for us to help you.
